Tackling Inequalities Through Sport: The Together Fund’s Legacy in Somerset
The Together Fund was a continuation of the Tackling Inequalities Fund (TIF) that was set up in April 2020 as part of Sport England's initiative, designed to help the sport and physical activity sector through the coronavirus crisis.
We were proud to share the impact of the Together Fund. This fund prioritised groups identified through national insight as facing barriers to physical activity, including lower socio-economic communities, culturally diverse groups, people with long-term health conditions, and disabled people.

With over £112k awarded to SASP to distribute locally, the Together Fund helped organisations in Somerset grow capacity, build partnerships, strengthen delivery, and broaden access to sport and physical activity opportunities.
Key Impact Areas
- Increased provision of tailored activity sessions
- Stronger local partnerships between community organisations and SASP
- Improved understanding of how inequalities affect sport participation
What’s next?
Key to this is ensuring sustainability: we are supporting organisations to build on what they have already done by developing workforce, sign-posting to funding, and using new relationships and partnerships. We are also working to do more research about what our communities want, and opening up more conversations about how to embed physical activity in organisations and their projects.
