What we believe

At SASP, we believe that when people feel respected and included, they can be more engaged, satisfied and motivated. Whilst we have more to do to advance equality, diversity and inclusion in Somerset, we're investing time and resources to move our organisation forward. We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive organisation that represents and celebrates the different perspectives of our staff, our board, our partners and the communities we serve.

What we will do

As an organisation we will work to achieve the actions set out in our Diversity & Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP). Our DIAP sets out our ambitions for advancing equality and inclusion and celebrating diversity at every level of our organisation and in all that we do.
Our plan demonstrates our commitment to reducing discrimination on the grounds of age, caring status, disability, gender reassignment, marriage & civil partnerships, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation and socio-economic status.

Who We Are Grpahic

Our plan is based on three core ambitions

  • Ambition 1: Our people are reflective of Somerset.
  • Ambition 2: We set a positive example for others, taking opportunities to promote diversity and inclusion whilst educating and bettering ourselves and our stakeholders.
  • Ambition 3: Our leaders are committed to fostering and developing an inclusive and empowered culture, putting strong policies and procedures in place, and supporting staff to work towards a shared vision.

Each ambition is underpinned by a set of targeted actions, responsible leads, intended goals and specific timeframes, and covers our Board, Senior Management Team, and all staff.

Jane Knowles

A message from Jane Knowles, Chief Executive: We want equality, diversity and inclusion to sit at the heart of everything we do at Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership (SASP). We want it to shape our culture, our beliefs and our values. We believe that fostering a fair, diverse and inclusive organisation for all is not only the right thing to do, but it helps us shape a better community.
Our Diversity & Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) is not a tick box exercise, but rather our public commitment to everyone involved in our organisation. We want to ensure that SASP is an organisation for all no matter who you are, where you come from or where you're going. SASP will be a safe, accessible and welcoming environment.

Abbie is a huge believer that when people feel respected, included and safe to be their authentic self, they can be more engaged, satisfied, motivated and happy. Here at SASP we have more to do to advance equality, diversity and inclusion, however we are investing time and resources to move our organisation forward.

With this in mind we have now launched our Diversity & Inclusion Action Plan.
