Earlier this month, Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership, Living Better and In It Together Somerset, alongside a range of trusted partners and organisations, delivered a first-of-its-kind event in Minehead. The free community event invited women and girls from Minehead and the surrounding areas to access trusted health information, connect with local support services, and discover opportunities to improve their wellbeing.
Throughout the day, local residents and community members attended a variety of workshops and visited the Community Village, where they could seek advice, ask questions and learn about local support available long after the event had ended. Workshops included a Menstrual Health Talk and Demonstration, Baby Massage, Dance Fit, and an Osteo Bone Health Talk and Demonstration.
A key focus of the event was ensuring that it wasn't just for adults. We wanted girls and young women to feel welcome and empowered to engage with organisations, take part in workshops, and access reliable information about their health and wellbeing. By creating a safe and inclusive space, attendees were able to build confidence, learn more about the support available to them, and make meaningful connections with services that can help now and in the future.
We are proud that partnership working was at the heart of the event and was clearly reflected within the Community Village, which brought together more than 20 organisations offering support, advice and signposting across housing, health, mental wellbeing, physical activity, learning, employment, safeguarding and wider inclusion services.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to all those organisations that joined us and helped make the event such a success, including:
