At SASP, we're thrilled to move beyond pilot stage and officially launch Move to Include across Bridgwater, Yeovil and Taunton. What started as a small-scale pilot in Bridgwater, is now evolving into a full programme. We now also support both adults and children. However, our children's support is starting small, which means we will begin by working with a small group of children, then grow the programme over time.
Why Move to Include?
People with learning disabilities or autism often face barriers to accessing community sport and physical activity. Our aim is to remove those barriers, by matching individuals with community clubs or local opportunities tailored to their interests, needs, and abilities. The goal is to boost mental, social and physical wellbeing by helping people get active in ways that work for them.
We don't just support the individuals, we also work with local clubs to open doors wider and make their programmes more inclusive.
What the process looks like
- Nomination: Anyone can nominate - professionals, families, or individuals themselves.
- Eligibility & consent: The person nominated should have a learning disability and/or autism, and be interested in becoming more active. Before submission, confirm they're happy to take part.
- Matching & support: We'll work one-on-one with the nominated individual to find the right club or activity - whether that's walking, tennis, wheelchair rugby, multi-sports or gym membership - and support them through the transition.
- No transport provision: Participants will need to have their own support or transport, or be able to walk/cycle to their chosen opportunity.
